TAJBank earns A1 credit ratings from Agusto, Datapr

    By Kadiri Abdulrahman

TAJBank Limited, one of Nigeria’s foremost non-interest banking services provider, has bagged an A1 ranking from Agusto & Co and Datapro rating agencies.

The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Hamid Joda, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja

Joda said that the ratings were in credit risk and operational resilience assessment scorecards, making it among the best rated in the nation’s Non-Interest Banking (NIB) space.

He said that the latest ratings of TAJBank represented a notch up from Bbb+ which Agusto & Co rated it about two years ago.

He said that it was attributed to the bank’s high quality balance sheet and robust earnings ratios in the financial year 2025.

“In spite of the prevailing economic whirlwinds in the country, TAJBank is noted to have leveraged its operational efficiency and customer-focused world-class services.

“The improved rating is a clear demonstration that TAJBank has been prioritising necessary risk management and operational controls.

“It has done that with clear focus on quality processes relating to first class standards, management, and administration lifecycle,” he said.

He said that the latest ratings by these reputable agencies had, again, validated the management’s commitment to world-class standardisation of the bank’s operations.

According to him, this is especially in terms of innovative, real time, techno-powered services and risk management for our growing customers on a sustainable basis.

“As we have consistently maintained, our primary goal is to deploy world-class operational standards and services to protect the interest of our customers.

“This is with a view to surpassing their expectations and retaining TAJBank at the leading edge of the NIB subsector on a sustainable basis.

“The message these latest best ratings is sending to our customers, investors and stakeholders is that with TAJBank, they can be rest assured of safety of their investments, transactions.

“They can also be assured of the readiness of the bank’s management to grow their businesses and support their individual socio-economic wellbeing,” Joda said.

In his remarks on the ratings, the bank’s Executive Director, Mr Sherif Idi, said that the A1 ratings had reaffirmed TAJBank’s management’s unwavering commitment to best practice standards.

According to Idi, this through prioritisation of investment in human capital, innovative technologies and branch network expansion.

“This is to consistently make our bank the preferred choice for customers in the NIB subsector of the banking sector.” (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)

  • Nigeria’s digital economy needs home grown security solutions—Don

Nigeria’s digital economy needs home grown security solutions—Don

    By Henry Oladele

Prof. Temitope Jaiyeola, a professor of Mathematics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, says that Nigeria’s digital economy needs home grown security solutions using mathematical models.

Jaiyeola said this on Thursday in Lagos while delivering the 3rd Chair Occupier’s Public Lecture of Pastor Enoch Adeboye Professorial Chair in Mathematics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the lecture was: Algebraic Structures And Their Applications to Cryptography And Complex Systems.

“Nigeria’s digital economy needs home-grown security solutions. The theoretical foundations laid in our work on quasigroup-based cryptography should be advanced towards prototype development.

“Partnerships with industry and cybersecurity agencies should be sought to test and adapt these mathematical models,” he said.

According to him, Mathematics is often described as the language of science, a language through which we express the patterns, symmetries, and structures that underlie our universe.

“Beyond its service to the natural sciences, mathematics is first and foremost a way of thinking, a disciplined art of reasoning, abstraction, and logical creativity.

“At its heart, mathematics seeks to understand relationships-between numbers, shapes, operations, or even ideas.

“From the earliest attempts to count stones and measure land, human curiosity has always pushed toward uncovering the hidden regularities in seemingly diverse phenomena,” he said

He further said that mathematics provided not only tools for solving problems but also insight into the deep order of reality.

“Yet mathematics is not static. It grows, diversifies, and refines itself. As new patterns emerge, mathematicians create new concepts and frameworks to capture them.

“This evolution has led to the rich tapestry of modern mathematics-analysis, topology, geometry, combinatorics, and algebra, among others,” he said.

The professor called for community engagement, saying mathematics was for everyone.

“I recommend targeted support for postgraduate students and early-career lecturers to attend and present at such high-calibre forums, building Nigeria’s visibility in specialized mathematics.

“The outreach model proven successful should be sustained and expanded.

“The Chair can champion an annual UNILAG mathematics outreach to ignite passion for the subject in primary and secondary school students, starting with schools in the UNILAG community,” he said.

He added that the journey as the Occupier of the Pastor E.A. Adeboye Chair had been a powerful affirmation.

“It has affirmed that deep, abstract inquiry in pure mathematics, in the algebras of loops and quasi groups, is not an isolated intellectual pursuit.

“It is a wellspring of tools waiting to be tapped for cryptography, a language for deciphering the rules of complex natural systems, and a discipline that sharpens the mind for societal problem-solving.

“The vision behind this endowed chair is a brilliant one: to create a nexus where high-level scholarship meets tangible impact.

“As I have endeavoured to show through our publications, trained students, public lectures, and global collaborations, this vision is not only valid but vibrantly achievable,” he said.

He said that the work, however, was continuous.

According to him, the algebraic structures are infinite in their variety and potential application, much like the possibilities for growth in the academic community and the nation.

“I am confident that the foundations laid during this tenure will serve as a robust platform for those who will follow in this Chair, and I eagerly anticipate the new mathematical horizons they will unveil,” he said. (NAN)

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the outcome of the Saturday’s area council elections reflect President Bola Tinubu’s visionary leadership.

Wike made the remarks during a broadcast in Abuja on Sunday, thanking Tinubu for strengthening residents’ confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC won five of the six chairmanship seats contested in the Saturday’s elections.

The party secured victories in Abuja Municipal, Bwari, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali area councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada.

Wike described the results as evidence that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has restored optimism and confidence among FCT residents.

He added that the peaceful conduct of the poll demonstrated the people’s commitment to democracy and good governance.

The minister thanked residents for believing in what he called a “renewed and credible democratic process” championed by the Tinubu administration.

He also commended all candidates for participating in the election and upholding democratic values.

“Your participation is proof of your commitment to ensuring that the voice of the minority is heard, even when the majority prevails.

“Most especially, I congratulate the APC and the PDP for their victories. This election has shown Nigerians the ruling party and the real opposition party.

“Residents of the FCT have demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats who refuse to see anything good in our country,” he said.

Wike said Tinubu’s commitment to improving Nigerians’ lives, particularly in the FCT, had not gone unnoticed.

He expressed confidence that under Tinubu’s leadership, the FCT would remain a model of development and progress.

The minister praised the President for defending democracy, including supporting amendments to the Electoral Act to strengthen credible elections.

“This demonstrates his commitment to improving our democratic process,” he said.

Wike congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible poll.

He said the exercise reflected the administration’s resolve to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure transparent, reliable electoral processes.

“I commend the security agencies for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election. Their efforts contributed greatly to this democratic exercise.

“To the winners, you have been given a mandate to serve. Do so with humility, dedication and a commitment to excellence.

“Work tirelessly to improve residents’ lives and bring development to our communities,” he said.

He commended residents, particularly in satellite towns, for turning out peacefully to exercise their franchise.

“Your participation affirms your trust in our democracy. Continue to support efforts to build a better FCT,” he urged.

Wike pledged that the FCT Administration would continue delivering the dividends of democracy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. (NAN)
